I HAVE A 2008 SUN L 250CC IT HAS A CHARGING PORT I JUST RECENTLY BOUGHT A NEW AGM BATTERY THE READY TO GO ONES DO I STILL HAVE TO CHARGE WITH NEW BATTERY? I DONT WANT TO OVER CHARGE IT TOO MUCH AND END UP MESSING UP THE BATTERY

A lot of the new ones don't need to be charged but if you have a battery tender that automatically goes into maintain mode you can use that.

I was thinking that the charge port is for convenience but i could be wrong. I would definitely do as WarrenS says and use a battery tender not a normal always on charger.

THANKS GUYS! I WAS JUST CONCERNED BECAUSE I JUST BOUGHT THE SCOOTER AND IT WOULD HAVE TO JUMP IT TO GET IT GOING SO I JUST BOUGHT ONE AND I DIDNT WANT THE BATTERY GO TO WASTE FOR ME CHARGING IT TOO MUCH... THE BATTERY TENDER? IM NEW TO THIS SCOOTER WORLD CAN YALL LET ME IN ON THAT I DONT KNOW WHAT THAT IS OR WHERE I COULD FIND ONE AND HOW MUCH?

I have a 12V quick charger, with 600CCA. Normally for a 4 cylinder car, it starts the bike immediately. Usually when battery voltage is low, the bike will try to run at higher RPM's (~2k) for a few seconds to a minute, before dropping to lower RPMS (or perhaps only the EFI's do that).
Anyway, the device I have at home, I just connect it to the battery, start the bike, and go.

Just as long as the bike starts, you're fine, and don't need to charge the battery. Just check every 2 months or so. The bike will charge it when you drive it.

A trickle charger is mostly just 1/2 amps which is low and safe to use . The Harbor Freight is not a trickle charger I have that one myself since it was so cheap . Battery Tender is a good brand . If you ride often should not need it . If you live up north and have very cold winters or put scooter in storage a trickle charger is a great way to keep the battery charged as when its cold battery life fizzles away

The Harbor freight one says it is not for AGM batteries. Search for Battery Tender. It can be found in a lot of places, maybe Walmart. Get the junior model as it is all you need.

THANKS GUYS! A LOT OF GREAT INFO! ONE THING THAT I NOTICED IS THAT WHEN I TURN IT ON IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL OUT AND THIS IS WITH THE NEW BATTERY MY RPM GAUGE DOES NOT WORK I MESSED WITH THE IDLE SCREW TO MAKE IT HIGHER AND ITS BETTER NOW

I have a Battery Tender installed into the under seat trunk of my scoot. I ran the wires over and connected it up to the posts (had to cut the battery shield a little to allow the wires to go in without pinching. Now I just plug in my scoot when it's at home and the battery is kept to full charge all the time. Also if I ever have a dead battery, I can just find an outlet somewhere and plug in for a little while.

In my experiences I have found that if I keep the batteries on a maintainer, they last a lot longer. As an example I just recently needed to replace the battery on my Cub Cadet lawn tractor, the battery had a date code of 11/05. Keeping the battery fully charged extends the life of the battery. I use the Schumacher 1.5 amp automatic voltage select model. I have found them to be the cheapest at Walmart, at about $20.00. I have 7 of them in use currently.
