about to throw my scooter off a bridge! HELP!
« Thread Started on Jul 20, 2012, 1:00pm »

so to make a long story short I bought this 08' CF moto echarm from a friend b/c i've read very good things about the company

i figured it was a good deal....800 bucks 1100 miles on the thing.....

well the first issue i had with it was stalling and stumbling off idle at a stop and wouldn't start when the engine was warmed up. adjusted the valves properly, tried to clean the carb but whomever did work to the bike before i owned it stripped 2 of the 4 screws on the bowl so i just bought a new carb and adjusted that well.....still had the same issue....found out that is was a bad EGR valves and consulted all of you for advice and decided to just dump the system and vent the crankcase properly which i did

ran GREAT for 3 days!! dogged it to make sure it wasn't doing anything stupid....started right up ran like a rabbit.....55-60 MPH with no issues

went to shut it down 3 days ago after a long ride.....sat overnight and went to start it the next morning and NOTHING!! cranks but wont start.....getting high white spark.....petcock is working well and it's getting plenty of gas

W.......T......F!?!?!

could it be something like a CDI or the voltage regulator??

HELP PLEASE!!

How did you test the spark?
Are you getting good vaccum at the back of the carb?
What did you lash the valves at?
It could be a CDI or Starter Soleniod.
But if you have good spark, I dount its the CDI

Hello,

Wouldn't toss it just yet.

1100 miles is still breaking in - it's near the end of breaking in - but still
changing from running + depends on how hot original owner got things in side the
motor / valves, etc concerning breaking in - over breaking in.

You said "ran GREAT for 3 days!! dogged it to make sure it
wasn't doing anything stupid....started right up
ran like a rabbit.....55-60 MPH with no issues"

So the oil is good ? + fuel is fresh ?

You said "cranks but wont start.....getting high white spark"

White spark ? - from a spark plug test ? (gap is in speck - spark plug is clean) ?
The battery has proper voltage ?

You said "adjusted the valves properly" How much was the valve gap out on the exhaust ?
Because if the exhaust valves were closed = carbon build up and when run hard and hot
can move it around to all the wrong places, everywhere except out of the motor.

THE BIG ONE: Valves - at 1100 miles, ran hard and hot ?

check my thread at:
http://scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi....ad=52310&page=1
and recheck your valve gap + rotate your cam 2 or 3 times and recheck your valve gap
before replacing valve cover.

Because the repair process is frusterating we overlook things we shouldn't so
you may want to check this thread for sure:
http://scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi....ad=52385&page=1

Finally on the redirection to threads you may want to view these other two:
this one (lengthy info & specks):
http://scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi....ad=52309&page=1

This one on nasty cleaning:
http://scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi....ad=52185&page=1

Hope this helps.

if it was the starter solenoid the scooter would crank

i replaced both hose claps on the carb when i replaced it and the valves are at .004 in and out....checked them again today

If it had anything to do with the timing it would backfire at least, If there is no backfire ( carb or exhaust ) then there is NO fire,

Spark, fuel or compression, If it has fuel or spark and compression it should do something,

Im saying dont throw it off the bridge yet lets take a closer look at these few important points of power

Lets slow down a little here, If the motor turns over but it does not fire, Take the Spark Plug out and see what it looks like.
A. If it is WET then you have NO SPARK.
B. If it is DRY then you have no gas being sucked in.

So which is it because each point to different problems.
Wile
